How to disable this feature, I only need to explicitly enable the environment

That's covered in the docs: "python.terminal.activateEnvironment": false .

So you want the old way of doing activation? In that case you can opt out of the experiment (see https://code.visualstudio.com/updates/v1_82#_terminal-activation-using-environment-variables for the experiment name).
